Estorage is advancing initiatives to contribute to the sustainable development of local communities through its custom furniture business. For example, they actively use materials made from surplus wood that would otherwise go unused. Additionally, by introducing the latest processing machines, they cut materials with minimal waste. In doing so, they minimize the amount of discarded wood.

Comfort When Sitting
Another important aspect we focused on was the comfort when sitting. First, it was important to be able to feel the texture that Akane wood offers. Additionally, when sitting down or standing up, the edges of the wooden parts that touch the body, such as the backrest, armrests, and seat, should not cause discomfort.
For this reason, we have gently rounded the edges with an R-shaped chamfer to ensure smoothness and comfort.

This facility was designed by Kengo Kuma, and the furniture and interior were produced by Estrage.

Balancing Design and Strength
The shape left by insect damage varies depending on the material. We carefully considered which insect-eaten areas to showcase as design accents and how to best bring out the charm of the Akane wood. However, if the holes left by the insects are too large, the strength of the chair components cannot be maintained.
With safety in mind, we carefully examined each part to determine where it should be used and crafted each piece accordingly.
